ERIE COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
[ECRTA]
The Ohio Erie County Retired Teachers Association (ECRTA) was organized on April 28,1948, to support the state organization's (ORTA's) initiatives and efforts on a local level. At that time fifteen teachers met to organize the Chapter. Most of the meetings until September 9, 1955 were held in the homes of members, in the Follett House in Sandusky, OH, or occasionally at the Sandusky Business Women's Club.
During the years 1956-1969, the Erie County Chapter RTA continued to play an active role on the part of retired teachers. It had a full slate of committees functioning and the membership reached 51 members.
Today our membership continues to grow steadily and the chapter now boasts a membership of more than 169 members. It continues a long tradition of legislative involvement.
The Ohio Erie County Retired Teachers Association promotes the well-being of its retired educators by providing educational and social opportunities for its members, disseminating information to its membership and encouraging proactive community service. ECRTA works to promote the future of education in Ohio, as well as the economic well-being of retired educators. ECRTA schedules regular meetings where retirees come together with their colleagues.
